Responsibilities of the Wedding MC

1. Acquaint himself with DJ before reception

2. Introduce himself to the audience including relationship to bride and/or groom to guests.

3. Introduction of the Bridal Party

  • Make sure everyone is seated
  • Announce ushers/bridesmaids by couple, then best man and maid/matron of honour
  • Leave a pause for the bridal party (except bride and groom) to get positioned
  • Announce bride and groom as Mr. & Mrs. as they enter the building

4. Receiving Line - If Required

  • Bring up people table by table to be received by bridal party
  • Check with hall staff/caterer how long until dinner is ready to be served

5. Dinner

  • If buffet dinner is being served, invite head table to come up up first
  • Count how many tables there are, then select tables at random to go up for dinner
  • Announce seconds and dessert if there is dessert being served

6. Speeches

  • If there is a sit down dinner, speeches may be interspersed between the courses
  • Announce out of town guests, parents, grandparents
  • Telegrams
  • Toast to the bride
  • Response by Groom
  • Toast to bridesmaids and maid of honour by best man
  • Groom makes short speech
  • Cutting of the cake
  • Turn over of responsibility to DJ for the rest of the evening

Notes:

  • Anecdotes about bride and groom are fine, as long as they are in good taste
  • Arrange any gag gifts or things like room key prank, etc. in advance
  • to avoid excessive glass clinking, think of things to make the guests work to make the bride and groom kiss
